Nobel Peace Prize?
Oct0
When I woke up this morning to read that Barack Obama had won a Nobel Peace Prize, I seriously thought it was a joke. Only after visiting a few prominent websites to confirm it did I realize how much it bothered me. Now, I’m not an “Obama-hater” by any sense of the word, but a Nobel Peace Prize? Are you kidding me? After only 8 months in office?
I didn’t know it beforehand, but I guess other less-than-ideal people (such as Yasser Arafat) have also won a Nobel Peace Prize as well. I used to think that this level of an award actually meant something, but no longer believe this to be true 100% of the time. The majority of people who have won this award in past (and hopefully those who will in the future) have actually deserved an accoladeso prestigious as this, but this specific instance is one that is just not appropriate.

You Know You’ve Lived Here Long Enough…

…when you can remember a time before certain stoplights were added in the city.
I actually should have posted this sometime earlier this summer when it occured, but guess I just never got around to doing so. Even during the economic slowdown that has been occurring this past year, the northern part of Lehi has been growing pretty quickly. Inevitably that means simple stop signs and right-of-way intersections don’t handle traffic well enough and must be converted to a semaphore. Between the months of January and July of this year, I have seen 4 such intersections have traffic lights installed. It has been sad to see because I’ve rather enjoyed the small-town-ish feel that Lehi has had which reminded me of growing up in Lakewood, Colorado (until that started to become quite developed too).
Would it be impossible to find a place to live that had fiber Internet connections and few-to-no stoplights? I guy can wish can’t he?
New Resume
Oct5
I have had the same resume for about 5 years now. Whenever I changed jobs or had to add experience, I merely moved a few lines around, added a couple of descriptive phrases, cleaned up the formatting, and called it good. I’ve been lucky enough that I didn’t really have to work too hard to get interviews that would turn into job offers; I could just send out about 10 resumes a day for two weeks and then the interviews just kind of happened.
Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. It is now been 4 weeks that I have been unemployed and while I have been studying like crazy, I’m starting to go a little insane without some structure in my life. I decided to have my old resume professionally critiqued (surprisingly, this was free) and received some harsh, but constructive feedback. With that feedback, I spent about 8 hours making a new resume from scratch. This included researching similar resumes in my field of work, deciding how to creatively sell my skill-set, and choose and new layout.
I think the changes were long overdue, and I’m hoping that I can start to get some calls about potential interviews. A copy of my new resume is here and I would love any feedback, suggestions, or criticism that anyone would feel like offering. Even better than that, if you know of any job openings or potential opportunities, please let me know, I could use the little bit of extra help.
