Last Minute Concert
Mar0
I was listening to the radio on the way back from work one day and was excited to heard that Bobby McFerrin, the one who sang “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, was going to be performing up at Utah University back on the 7th of March. The only problem was that the concert was only one day away. As soon as I arrived home I looked to see if any tickets were still available and was surprised to find that there were a few left. Now, trying to get a date to go with me on such short notice was going to be near impossible. There’s a girl in the institute class I attend and I’ve been trying to find a reason to ask her out. Do I risk it and call her up with less than 24 hours until the event or do I just buy a single ticket for myself and enjoy the evening out alone? I’m the type of person who would automatically choose option number two, but for some reason, after pacing around my room for thirty minutes trying to decide, I ended up calling. The result was less-than-ideal: she already had “plans” for that evening. Maybe I’ll just stick to my normal process from here on out.
After buying a single ticket for myself, I was anxious to attend the concert. Although he didn’t sing the tune he first became popular with, the concert was a blast. It was all about improvisation and he did a very good job of involving the audience throughout the whole night. Various guest artists were brought onstage with him (jazz / choir students and professionals, interpretive dance, etc) to enhance the overall experience. I haven’t been to a whole lot of concerts in my life, but this was probably one of my favorites (even though I was flying solo this time).
Pi Day
Mar0
Yesterday was Pi Day (March 14 = 3-14 = 3.14 = π). It was also a friend’s birthday party. Put two and two together and what do you get? An excuse for Brady to bake. And bake he did. In fact, he broke the heating element in his oven during said baking because some of the fruit filling bubbled out and cause the element to burn out. Brady now knows that you should place a pan underneath pies when baking. But the pumpkin, cherry, apple, and a chocolate pudding pies were all quite popular at the party. Now to fix the oven.
February Is Over
Mar1
The past two weeks the weather has been just lovely. On Saturdays I get to wear sandals everywhere and I can literally taste the clean smell of the fresh air as I go about my to-do list. I can wake up now to see the sun and not drive home in the dark. The added daylight gives me so much more energy and I can tell I feel so much better. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but my backyard sits right next to a tree farm which belongs to a local nursery garden. Seeing as the weather was so good, I decided to go for I visit and see what it was all about. I talked with the owner of the business and asked how he was dealing with the slow economy and he said the company was struggling, but excited nonetheless for the what the spring would bring.
I eventually left with new various clay pots (to add to my already existent collection), potting soil, seeds, and various flower bulbs. Even though there isn’t even really a yard to plant them outside yet, I knew that the weather wasn’t going to stay perfect for at least a few more weeks, so I created a way to move them inside to one of the empty rooms so as to not have them freeze at night and on cold mornings. I’ve got some lilies, various gladiolas, red sunflowers, poppies, and others I can’t remember just yet starting to grow. Next week, I plan to add some herbs to those flowers such as mint, sage, parsley, etc. As if you couldn’t already tell, I’m quite excited that winter is almost gone.
I’ve continued with my bread making and have started to get a little more adventurous in my “formulas” (as the book calls them). It has been really hard to find some of the ingredients that are asked for. Things such as rice flour, semolina flour, rye flour, barley malt powder, liquid caramel coloring, and lots others just don’t seem to exist in most of the supermarkets. I went to a really big store and was able to find some of the ingredients, but the other even seem to be beyond the knowledge of the even the store employees. Perhaps I shall far an organic store or maybe even resort to ordering it off the Internet somewhere.
Other than that, things have been going really well and I’ve got a lot of other projects I’ve working on when I come home from work. I love my job and the freedom I have there to explore different options to enhance the company’s overall network stability. I going to be going out to Los Angeles sometime in March (finally!) which I’m also excited about. I have nothing more to say other than life is good and I’m so grateful for where I am and what I am being able to accomplish.
