Two Words

There are two words that have somehow made into the common vocabulary of some IT people which I find to be completely ridiculous. Whoever thought up these words and then decided it would be a good idea to propagate them needs to be shot in the knee (not really, but really). I’ve provided the definition for these two words below from the Urban Dictionary to show how absolutely silly they really are.
twitterverse
The cyberspace area of twitter. This naturally extends beyond twitter.com to anywhere you can twitter, which includes cell phones.
Wow, I think Scoble is one of the most popular people in the whole twitterverse!
blogosphere
Imagine a million lunatics wandering the streets mumbling to themselves. Write it all down and put it on the web. Congratulations, you’ve just created the blogosphere.
I wonder what the blogosphere has to say about the latest political scandal.
Just hearing those words in a conversation makes me cringe. In fact, whenever anyone uses them in a conversation I think to myself, “Really? Did you really just say that out loud? Was there really no other way to communicate your ideas?”

One of These Things Just Doesn’t Belong

My trip home to Colorado this year was great. I really enjoyed being home with my family again and seeing how much all of my nieces and nephews have changed in just a few short months. Christmas was smaller this year (which I am actually really happy about) and much less stressful for everyone around. We just enjoyed each other’s company and enjoyed the season. The weather was a pleasant 55 degrees or so the five days I was there.
On my flight headed to Colorado I had a hard time findihing my seat number. I shortly learned that it did not in fact exist. After double checking my ticket a number of times trying make sure I wasn’t seeing things, I resolved to simply sit in the next seat over as the plane was no where near being full.
(In case you missed it, try and find seat 10F like my ticket says.)
Quickly Bored

I was on a date this weekend (we went to Body Worlds then ate at Winger’s which was a first for me) and the conversation turned to what types of jobs we had each had thus far in our lives and I realized that I have the tendency to get bored fairly quickly. The statistics I came up with are quite astounding. Since the age of 14 when I first started working (official, taxable income), I have worked at no less than 16 different companies which average out to be 6.75 months per employer.
I wonder if this trend will continue for me during the next couple of years or if I can somehow find a way to learn to be content with my surroundings. I sure hope it is the latter, it would make my life that much less complicated.

How far is too far? I think this easily passes beyond the theoretical “too far” by leaps and bounds.
Winter Has Arrived

I went to FHE last night for the first time since I moved to Lehi. What makes that humorous is that I was one of the FHE leaders in my previous ward in Colorado who struggled to get people to come and now I am one of those same individuals. Oh well, I can’t do and be everything for everyone.
The Bishop was kind enough to invite the ward over to his home (which I found out is only 4 blocks from me) to share his young family’s FHE with us. We had a short lesson and then made gingerbread (or graham cracker) houses as an activity. Mine took a few architectural revisions to get the support structure right because when adding various decorations, the additional weight would collapse the overall building. However, I got it all worked out in the long run and I’m happy with how it turned out (not being the artistic type in the first place).
Then this morning it took me over an hour to drive to work (twice as long as usual) due to the snow storm that had arrived. I can’t really complain because this is the first real snow storm of the year and the month of December is already half over. I’m hoping this pattern of less-than-normal snow will continue the rest of the season and maybe when February 2nd and arrives, the groundhog will be able to provide some <sarcasm> scientific </sarcasm> guarantees that this winter will be short lived. I can only hope.
